A tentmaker is someone who uses their work / business(es) to support themselves and provides shelter (training and jobs) for those that they reach out to as their service to God. Alex and his family are from COOS and held stable jobs in Singapore. But they chose to heed the call from the Lord to go into a country they had no exposure to, with their young daughter.
The country is Cambodia. They had no prior knowledge of the country at all. They did not even know where the country was on the map. But someone made a comment for them to think about Cambodia and their journey started.
As they researched about the country, they saw many opportunities to share God’s love and make disciples. The percentage of Christians in Cambodia is less than 2% in 2022 (according to an article from the US Embassy in Cambodia). The people need to hear the Gospel!
The Lord opened the door for them to run a Preschool in a Church compound. Construction began last year and the school is now open. They also started teaching Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Programme and are training the local Cambodians with that skill to improve their livelihood. Another project that they are planning is Project Library where books and educational resources are brought to schools and villages. It is a mobile library on wheels.
As they continue to trust God for each step, they are faithfully teaching, building friendships and sharing God’s love to the people they meet.
Romans 1:16 (NIV)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
